Our interview with April Weeps in S8 Underground Club

On March 1, 2018, with the Slovak Titans, April Weeps, I managed to talk with them a little bit at the S8 Underground Club, where you can drink at affordable prices, located at the Puskás Ferenc Stadion metro station in one of the city’s frequented location. This evening, 3 symphonic metal teams (Meteora, April Weeps, Sanctorium) performed in this place.

With the slovakian atmospheric metal band was given a very serious show, which was also aroused by the audience. They did not entrust it to chance because they made it hard. It was also heard in the audience’s ovation
When I introduced to them, it turned out that their singer Marta is Hungarian thats why it was so easy to understand. The interview was in the backstage in Hungarian, English and Slovakian. So far this was my most international interview.
Before the party, I talked with the singer Marta and the keyboardist Milos.

FemMeZin:

  1. Tell me a little about the band! When did you formed and who were influenced your music?

AW:

“We were formed in 2010, but before, there were attempts as a garage project, and then we started really well after that, maybe twice there wew changes in the lineup and we’ve been working this way for a while. Our music is mostly a mixture, because there is somebody who brought a little prog, there is somebody who prefer the classic line, this is more like a mixture of everything. The inspirations are mostly from Tristania, Epica and Theatre of Tragedy.”

FemMeZin:

2. Can we already know something about the new record?

AW:

“We’re going to show up soon, we’d like to release in April, because we’re ready to go to the tour in May, where we’re going to show the music, so now we’ve got what we can now hear about the new album and what we can officially know, Comma will be the title we’ve written, explaining that we’re playing a little bit with words, stop breathing a bit like Comma’s breathing like when we’re going to get a little into the comic state when we’re deeply immersed in our own inner world.”

FemMeZin:

3. How was the concert with Draconian and Epica?

AW:

“We were asked to be there this Open Air Festival and it was great because this bands are our influential bands we are like them very much. It is something like a small dream come true.”

FemMeZin:

4. What does Atmospheric Metal mean exactly?

AW:

“This is rather a mixture. It is very hard to describe it’s just one piece, because every band likes to have a unique style and so on and when we go deeper into passages from our songs we can have melodic death metal, we have a black metal passages, lot of rock passages, lot of gothic metal passages and all this passages have one thing coming to have a unique atmosphere so we just formerly into single piece of atmospheric metal.”

FemMeZin:

5. Will your new song, Palingenesis, be heard on the new album? What do we need to know about the song?

AW:

“The lyrics is about re-birth, who has read the lyrics or watched the lyric video which was released now, we start from such an angry state when we are angry to everything, you are all eager to put an end to it and then you’ll be born some new decisions so it’s time to re-create a new one by yourself, so it’s part of the lyrics in that sense. The part of the music has been for some time now, and we’ve put it together for another project, and then we fell in love with this melody and reworked it. After all this thought came to me to be reborn.”

FemMeZin:

6. In Slovakia how much is the eagerness of metal music, and how difficult or easy is it to be in this genre?

AW:

“In general, this genre is either acceptable or just a bit famous. It’s hard to keep this post, and I think there are many bands in Slovakia, and there are usually many bands that can break through.
It’s not a mainstream, so it’s hard to sell. In mainstream, it is easy to sell songs and albums. Since this is not a mainstream, it is understandable that it is much more difficult.”

7. What elements can you incorporate into your songs and music into your favorite artists?

AW:

“I think this is quite individual. From me, I realize that everyone in their small parts is modifying something with something new. I do not say that specifically imitates, but meets something with sense of inspiration, and then brings it into music, and thus something is born, and this is what I would say.”

“We can say that every individual in April Weeps likes a different music. So, when we in the past there only two members has made the songs, but now we makes the songs together, everyone. So everyone gives in the songs its own feeling and we close the songs what everybody’s confident about it.”

FemMeZin:

Thank you for the interview and good luck for the future!

AW:

“We also thank the interview and the questions!”
