Midnight Eternal: Interview with the band’s singer, Raine Hilai

The American Midnight Eternal band few weeks ago was on tour with Therion, but unfortunately they didn’t came to Budapest. That’s why we made an online interview with the singer, Raine, online.

FemMeZin:

  1. Tell us a little bit about the band. When were you formed and which bands were inspirated to your music?

Raine (Midnight Eternal):

“The band was formed in March of 2014 when two members of Operatika (Richard Fischer and Boris Zaks) invited Daniel Prestup (Rivera Bomma, Spider Rockets) and Mike LePond (Symphony X) to join them in recording a two-song demo. During the recording, the band reached out to me to record the vocals, and the planned demo quickly evolved into the formation of a full-time band. Shortly thereafter, Greg Manning (of Spider Rockets, Zamora) joined the band as permanent member taking over bass duties.
Shortly after releasing the demo, which featured the songs “When Love and Faith Collide” and “Masquerade of Lies”, we began to receive numerous offers and booked a number of high caliber shows. In the years 2014 and 2015, we shared the stage with Kamelot, Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, Delain, Xandria, Doro, The Agonist and Quiet Riot, among others. Late 2015, we hit the studio to record our debut album, which was released on April 27th, 2016 (Asia, Marquee/Avalon) and April 29th, 2016 (US/Europe, Inner Wound Recordings). In November 2016, we hit the road for a 5 week national US tour to promote the album, supporting Queensryche and Armored Saint. Bands like Nightwish, Kamelot and Stratovarius are definitely our main influences.”

FemMeZin:

2. How was the trip with Therion? Was this your first international tour?

Raine:

“Yes it was! We got to visit so many different countries, and connect with some new fans, as well as the awesome bands we were touring with. It was definitely an amazing experience, we can’t wait to do it again.”

FemMeZin:

3. How did the international audience host you?

Raine:

“We had a great reception. We had some people who had come especially to see us (in Seville, there was a group who had travelled 100 miles!), and many who told us they had become fans after hearing us for the first time. So we were really happy.”

FemMeZin:

4. What are your future plans?

Raine:

“We are currently working on finishing the demos for our second album, which we hope to release by the fall. Then we will be touring again!”

FemMeZin:

5. Are you planning an independent European tour? Or maybe a Budapest concert?

“Not at the moment, but we hope to soon!”

FemMeZin:

6. How popular is this kind of metal music in the United States?

Raine:

“Not very, but we are doing our part in trying to make it more popular over here.”

FemMeZin:

7. We were surprised to shared the stage such a great names like Doro, Xandria, or Sonata Artica. Can you tell us about how it became possible and how was the performances with this great bands? Not many beginner bands achieve such success before the release of their first album.

Raine:

“It was a combination of hard work, persistence and a little luck. I guess that our demo was impactful enough to turn some heads, and I definitely hope that our streak continues. Obviously, those performances were thrilling for us as a new band. We felt very honored and privileged.”

FemMeZin:

8. Are there any ideas for the next album?

Raine:

“Absolutely! We are hard at work, and I think our fans will be very happy.”

FemMeZin:

Thank you for the interview and good luck for the future. Hope to see you soon in Hungary.

Raine:

“Thank you so much! We hope to visit very soon.”

  1. My brother suggested I might like this web site. He was totally right. This post actually made my day. You cann’t imagine just how much time I had spent for this information! Thanks!

  2. My husband and i ended up being very relieved Edward could deal with his research using the precious recommendations he got when using the web pages. It’s not at all simplistic just to always be freely giving tips that people today could have been making money from. Therefore we consider we now have the writer to be grateful to because of that. The type of illustrations you’ve made, the simple web site menu, the friendships you aid to foster – it’s got all astounding, and it is helping our son and us reason why this concept is satisfying, and that is particularly serious. Many thanks for everything!
