A couple of weeks ago, the long-standing Therion band announced that it would go to the tour again, where they will visit Budapest again on March 13th. They also bring other bands with them, including the Russian symphonic metal band Imperial Age, whose vocalists were able to get a microphone in an online interview.
1. What should we know about the new album?
“The Legacy Of Atlantis” is a story about a Mage from Atlantis who realizes himself as the incarnation of an Italian female monk during the Middle Ages, and a lot of strange things start happening because of it. 🙂 The nun goes to the abbotesse of the monastery, who in turn calls the Inquisition. The great Inquisitor comes, a fight takes place and eventually our Mage breaks free. How does it happen? You`ll know after listening to our new album 😉
2. We’ve been reading you making a metal opera. Can we hear a complete opera on the album?
It’s not like an opera you have in a theater. We have characters and a storyline which go through the whole album, but the structure of the songs is standard with the versus and choruses. So its more like Avantasia and Ayreon as opposed to Jesus Christ Super Star by Webber or Beloved Antichrist by Therion.
3. We know you do not tour with Therion for the first time. Do you have a good relationship with them?
It`s the first time touring with Therion for me – because I joined the band in August 2016, but the other tour was in January 2016.
4. What do you do in your freetime?
I`m a vocal coach and also I have my project for young people – we organize trainings, seminars and other meetings. Also, I play the piano, compose music and even have a telescope at my country house – I like the stars, the universe and physics)
5. How do you relax on the tour? Jane, we know you like to do yoga and modeling.
Modeling is the worst thing to make yourself relax – it consumes a lot of energy actually… What I do is not yoga, it’s a combination of Chinese Chi-gong, ordinary physical exercises and some Magic techniques. Physical exercises are essential for health. I start feeling very uncomfortable when there is no possibility to do any fitness activity for a few days. At every venue I try to find a place where I can do some basic exercises like push-ups and abs. Besides being a method of acquiring good shape and health it is one of the best methods to distract yourself from mental work.
6. You are not the first time in Budapest. Have you seen something from the town?
Unfortunately not. I’ve been in Budapest once in 2016 and there were a lot of things to do at the venue. I really hope that this time we will have time and energy to have a walk through the city.
7. What did you like the most in Budapest and what do you think about the audience here?
I`ve never been there, so I`ll tell you after our tour
8. Which bands have the greatest impact on you? Who are your idols?
HIM. Definitely. This band is the reason why I started listening to metal music. Before that I was a big fan of Eminem and was a hip-hop fan. My other influences are also Avantasia and Therion with their vocal variety. These bands demonstrate that any type of vocals can find its audience.
Concerning idols: for me every person who has reached a “big” goal could be an idol. “Big” goals are those, which are regarded as unreachable by most other people. It can be something social – like becoming a successful artist, getting a role in a blockbuster, establishing a successful business, or something immaterial like gaining some supernatural abilities. These goals cannot be achieved without long and hard work in one direction in spite of all difficulties. Reading stories about such people inspires me to continue doing what I’m doing 🙂
9. What is your favorite Hungarian food? Have you any?
I’ll also tell you later
10. What do you like to eat most generally? Is it just domestic cuisine, or is there something special you like?
I usually eat whatever is faster and easier to cook 🙂 But at the same time healthy of course. No fast food. I have no time to cook anything complicated, so usually it’s pasta or rice with seafood or vegetables. I like spicy oriental food (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) and I always add a lot of spices when I cook myself. But in the end, the most important thing is that the food should be healthy (I can spend a lot of time in the store reading the ingredients like paranoid). I have only one body for this life and I want to keep it beautiful and functional for the rest of my life.
Thank you for the interview and thank you for your time! Good luck for the tour!
